If you've been using Facebook in the last couple of days, you might have noticed that a purple bird has taken social media by storm; appearing in different shapes and forms everywhere, from dedicated meme pages to the comments section of almost every popular page on Facebook.
If not, it will be only a matter of time before this weird little fellow is as familiar on your feed as a thumbs-up
If you've spotted it, you might be wondering where it has come from and why it is appearing on your screens. Fear not, we have some of the answers.
"It all started in Thailand, actually—they have a joke about birds there, and it tied in there," Weiler told PopDust.
It was the headbanging version of the bird that really took off. English-language Thai news site Khao Sod English reported that Thai netizens "filled entire comments sections" with the graphic.
Why? It's not really clear, but Khao Sod offers a partial explanation: "One theory is that the
word for bird, nok, is also used to describe someone hopelessly single or suffering from
unrequited love."
At the Daily Dot, we first saw the bird in this video by Thai comedy group Chong Nom, and to be honest, we didn't really get it.
Weiler said she got the idea while visiting Minneapolis. "I was sitting by a pond ... and there were just pigeons everywhere," she said. "I had never thought about pigeons before. They're funny little birds.
They have really shiny, colorful, almost rainbow-y feathers, but then they bob around and waddle and beg for food. They're like doves but they eat trash."

What does it mean?
Even us we don't know that, it's open to interpretation
Weiler either has no answers. In her own words via a Facebook status in October 2016, she said: "In case you didn't know, I made some fantastically dumb iOS stickers, you can spam your friends and family with them!"
What does purple bird mean to you?
