Former banker Emmanuel Macron, pictured with his wife Briggitte, 64, is set to become France youngest president at 39 after winning 65.5 per cent of the vote in a tense election against far-right National Front (FN) candidate Marine Le Pen, 48
Macron celebrated his victory with a rally at the Louvre in Paris, where joyous supporters waved both European and French flags as they cheered their candidate.

“A new page of our long history is turned ... one of refound hope and trust,” Macron said after the result.
In her concession speech, Le Pen said that France had decided to vote for continuity rather than change and vowed that her National Front party would undergo an overhaul to prepare for the future.
President Trump on Sunday took to Twitter to congratulate Emmanuel Macron for winning France’s presidential election, giving a nod to a centrist who didn’t seem to have been his preferred candidate.
“The National Front ... must deeply renew itself in order to rise to the historic opportunity and meet the French people’s expectations,” she told supporters.
“Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his big win today as the next President of France,” Trump said in his tweet. “I look very much forward to working with him!”
A brief, more formal statement followed a few minutes later in which Trump added that he looks forward “to working with the new President and continuing our close cooperation with the French government.”
