Dashcam footage from a police car (seen above) captured the scene pretty clearly: A meteor, descending from the night sky, burning up in the Earth’s atmosphere at a very high rate of speed.
The National Weather Service Chicago posted several videos of the fireball on Twitter after receiving a number of reports.

Video from Lisle Police Department, captured the meteor's flight in Illinois at around 1:30 a.m. The American Meteor Society said the meteor likely ended its journey on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.
Another sighting was reported from Wisconsin. A driver captured the jaw-dropping moment as he was traveling down the interstate

Most of those reports were in Illinois and Wisconsin, but there were also sightings in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, New York, Kentucky, Minnesota and Ontario, Canada.
